Why can't online retailers just offer loss leaders that require other purchases? For example, if Coke was your loss leader at 99 cents, allow it's purchase at that lower price only when bought with other higher margin item(s). I would think that this could be programmed into ecommerce sites pretty easily.

Or, a store like Target could send online purchases coupons only good in their brick & mortar stores. This might be done in reverse, where in store purchasers received a coupon code in their receipt that was good for a discount for their online purchases.
