The China Toy & Juvenile Products Association has generated a very interesting report on the Chinese toy and baby consumer markets. The study was based upon an analysis of 750 stores. They looked at changes in sales volume, average sales per square meter, best-selling brands and more. Here is some of the information that caught my eye:
- The top 10 toy trends in China are: Auldey (a UK based company), Barbie, Lego, Silverlit, Rastar (A Hong Kong based company), Fisher Price, Bandai, Auby (a Malasian company), Transformers, Goodbaby (a Chinese company).
- The sweet spot for toy prices is 100 to 300 RMB (roughly $15.00 to $45.00 US). (I need to check further on this as it is much higher than previous figures which have been more around 20 to 50 RMB.
- The biggest retail season is the Spring Festival which takes place from January 15 to February 15. It accounts for 19% of annual sales.
