Great article. There's a haunting explanation of why Edison made those dolls in the book Edison's Eve. Our toys spoke the lines of movies. In addition to reenacting Star Wars with Kenner's line of figures, we had Fisher Price adventurers, Ponch and John from ChiPs, S.W.A.T. figures, GIJoe, Mego and many others. The ultimate line from my day was Dirty Harry's "Go ahead, punk, make my day."

Thanks, Kevin. As it happens, I have a copy of Edison's Eve on my desk right now. I'm looking forward to reading the rest.
